November 7th, 2011 - Daily Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order at 16:10 by Dylan and Adam.

As with every meeting, the "Hand Signals" were repeated for any members who aren't aware of them yet.

-Upon speaking with the Unions (Dylan/Mike), we have been informed that they are in the process of writing an Official letter of support for the Occupy Sudbury movement.

-A list of requests has been drafted and will be sent to the Unions and outlines what we need and why we need it. (WE = referring to Occupy Sudbury). Dylan read this list aloud and it was agreed by all present that it is acceptable. The actual draft letter will be posted shortly.

-Mike requested that we use official Occupy letterhead. It was brought up that letterhead HAS been created and is available for use. A few members voiced concerns over new letterhead designs being stolen and suggested protecting the design through copyright or some other means.

-Shoppers Drug Mart (@ Elm & Frood) has graciously offered us medical supplies

-Evans Lumber (Pine Street) has offered lumber and building supplies

-Discussed monetary donation options:
a) On-site at our donation jar
b) Online at the RocketHub site

-Mike has found a stash of skids, crates of steel, and other building supplies behind the new USW building. He has agreed to organize the pick-up of materials for the site.

At this point, we invited a film-maker from France to address the group. I believe his name was Dr. Hendel. Here are some snippets of what he talked about:

-Sudbury is a microcosm and mirrors the entire planet's state

-Discussed media corruption and black-outs and how easy it is to keep information from us

-Offered to include us in his newest film documentary. He will be bringing cameras and a crew on-site over the next month to have our efforts shown on film. We will be asked to sign waivers (to allow our image to be shown on film). Those who do NOT wish to be on film will be "pixeled-out".

-Explained how GreenPeace had its beginnings in a town similar to Sudbury. He feels "We've figured that out on our own and he wants to show that" in the film.

-His film project is scheduled to be completed in the Spring

-He gave out his personal email for a small group of individuals to use. He is worried about getting overwhelmed by emails. It was agreed that his email be kept private unless needed.

Dr. Hendel stepped down and regular meeting commenced.

-Dave and Kayla discussed how people are starting to feel powerless. We brought up the fact that ONE person with an idea is never powerless. Once they get one more person on board with their idea, they're no longer alone.

-Discussed Wednesday's meeting with the coucil (November 9th, 2011 @ 17:30-21:00h). Agreed unanimously that it will be a peaceful protest without signs so we can participate and engage the coucil in a mature and responsible way.

-Discussed Saturday's Rally (November 12th @ 14:00h). We will walk from Memorial Park to Bell Park, and back. We will have signs and chants. We should invite as many people as possibly to strengthen this march.

-Discussed how to properly facilitate a general meeting like we've had. It's important to have someone to "chair" the meeting and direct comments/opinions, as well as keeping the meeting on-topic. This can be one person or multiple people.

At this point, yelling was heard from the other side of the park and everyone dispersed.
Meeting was adjourned at 17:00h.
