Sunday November 6th. 2pm
G.A for Occupy Sudbury

roughly 25-30 people in attendance.

First issue that was addressed was in regards to the belligerent and hostile comments that are made on a day to day basis and how to deal with it. It was brought up that when someone is being rude or obnoxious that the best course of action is to deal with it immediately by confronting the abuser. Given the fact the majority of us agree to a peaceful and respectful atmosphere, there will be support available if confrontations begin to happen.
Cait will also print and laminate various signs to post within the HQ to display our stand on disrespect.
Second issue brought up was that there is a need for more structure in the kitchen. Also, in regards to dumping dish water in the grass, more caution is needed as this may be destructive to the environment. Consulting the Health Unit is in order to determine if this is the case. Otherwise, taking the dirty water and dumping in a toilet or sewer drain is what we will do from now on.

Third issue brought up was in regards to our plan on to hold a sacred fire. The fire chief needs to be contacted and a permit is needed in order to have a fire in the park. We need a liaison for this, if you are willing to volunteer please let one of the occupiers know.
Fourth, we asked for a consensus on if we should use the community funds towards purchasing Styrofoam or fibreglass insulation for the new structure. This was non-conclusive.

On November 9th, we will be occupying Tom Davies Square during their monthly council meeting. While they are in their room, we have the opportunity to come inside the buildings and observe, as well as bringing our signs along. This can be a very informative opportunity for us occupiers, and it is also a much needed action to be taken. Georgie Hanson has created an event on facebook.

It was also brought up that we need to have a “formal” event to speak about issues that affect different people; invite press and general public, in order for more of us to have our voices heard. This can be a great step in engaging our community and providing them with a voice.

Georgie mentioned that we should set up a donations committee, where they will be responsible for contacting those who want to donate and contacts more people that can donate. Posting ads on kijiji and updating the forum thread is also needed.

Winnie has given her phone number in case there are any altercations at night which involve our co-occupiers that she is able to help. Winnie has personal experience, a gift, in being able to deal with these situations need they arise and heat up beyond our control.

We revised the solar panels topic, where Ben is the liaison with that situation. Since Ben is taking a small break from, it is looking like Dylan will be heading up that front. Kayla brought up the idea to recycle our pop cans and we could possibly do a workshop on the aluminum heaters (as seen in the YouTube videos)
Finally, for Remembrance Day, we have agreed that we will not be protesting or causing any disruptions during or after the ceremony. We have come to a consensus that we should clean up the park by raking the leaves and moving the tents.

We also came to the consensus that we will change the time of our daily GA’s to 4pm instead of 2pm, DAILY.

Kathleen Magda will be our Social Services Liaison
Georgie Hanson has also volunteered to be our Vigil/March/Protest co-ordinator.
